Athos Monastery in Greece* Meditating to make yourself aware of your very certain finiteness seems to be universal practice. It helps me be more mindful of how I invest my time and energy. It's a premortem applied to my own life. In Buddhism, this practice is called Maraṇasati (literally 'mindfulness of death'). In yoga, this is the meaning of Shavasana, which represents our last posture. Charlie Munger advised us to live life in reverse, writing our obituary and living up to it. There are many ways to practice this. Each of us must seek a way to embrace our finiteness for himself. I've found writing to my last self most helpful. Conversing with the person I'll be in my last moments makes life much clearer. I can feel down to my bones how much sadness and regret there would be if I don't manage how I react to life, if I let my mind free to worry about problems I don't have and miss out on the present.
